Is it still worth learning French?
Considered one of the oldest languages in the world, French is also one of the most learned language. In today’s world learning a second language is fast becoming a great skill to have and the French language leads the way in this respect. Many have asked if the French language is still worth learning. Here are some reasons to learn French.
First off by learning how to speak French you would have increased your competitiveness in the job market and in the business market. There are many jobs both at home and abroad that require a second language. Knowing a second language may be the difference in the level of salary of you receive.
When you learn French you will begin to have a great appreciation for other people and the culture that encompasses their lives. Almost 150 million persons worldwide speak French and it is either the main or secondary language in well over forty countries. The language is spoken on every continent in the world therefore there is no region in the world you can go that will not have people who know how to speak French. This makes it easy for you to create and develop international contacts and friendships.
You may not know it but when you learn French you are actually making your English vocabulary better, as up to fifty percent of the words in the English language come from the French language.
Also when you learn French your creative thinking ability will be improved and so will your thinking skills. This will translate into greater problem solving ability and even improved memory.
As a tourist destination France is the second most visited in the world. In places like the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa there are many French speaking counties so your travel opportunities to French speaking destinations is greatly increased.
By learning French you get to have an understanding and be more aware of the French culture and what the country is like. Therefore the more you know the language, the more you will learn about the country.
Ironically by learning the French language you will begin to learn about the English language as your skill develops. This will make your vocabulary get better and thus help to make you more proficient the two languages.
These are just some of the reasons you should learn French as a second language but all the reasons in the world will not make it happen. You must have commitment if you are to learn French.
